My initial impression is mostly negative.
I don't see much change I was hoping would happen some day - ie citadels/outposts becoming interactive on a more deeper and personal level or improvements to PI. There is a suggestion about that somewhere in my posting history.
Alpha clone skill sets are extremely limiting and halving skill training speed just adds insult to the injury. The usual complaint of new players was not being able to get into relevant ships faster and how exclusion from many important skills while also getting the skills twice as slow should help retaining them i really don't know. At least i am glad to have had a 3 weeks headstart for my alpha character.
Which brings me to the character sheet. It's ****. Terrible. Not once since I started playing in 2006 have I thought CCP went full ******: not when you failed Incarna(you simply don't have the right talent), not when you were discussing gold ammo(you were being really stupid back then, though), not when you messed up the fitting screen(because it still was and is to this day perfectly usable). But this piece of **** you created is going full ****** at cosmic speeds. It's pretty funny too, because the fitting screen doesn't even show all the apparel the character wears, so people can't see what their character looks like to other players and will probably stop caring at some point, directly cutting into your NEX store profits.
Instead of letting your UI experts messing up perfectly fine interfaces, it would have been a really good idea to force them to create a better drone interface so we can actually have buttons for attack, return, orbit etc. When I was actually playing the game before, it was in the evenings before sleep, usually relaxing and drinking a cup of tea, and in such a setting being able to comfortably use a mouse for all relevant interactions would have been great.
Playing as an alpha clone I also realized that you most probably won't be getting money nor PLEX from me anymore. I became quite a carebear after my initial pvp experiences simply due to the fact that earning ISK was and is still boring, so over the years instead of being bored even more sitting somewhere on a gate or flying around for 2 hours for 5 minutes of action I became quite content as a solo player doing 2-3 missions every 3-4 days. And those are pretty much the same from level 1 to level 4. Everything else is either more fun as an actual Excel sheet(like PI), EFT graph or requires of one to be on the far side of the autist spectrum(scan spam in wormholes), so high sec without fancy ships it is. All completely free with the new shiny and really pretty explosions from what i can tell by looking at the NPC frigates going boom in LvL1's.
TL;DR: everything is meh to awful other than explosions. Those are pretty nice. |
